Biker Photo of the Day--What Arctic Blast?

Couldn't resist snapping this shot of true biker love. The temps that day were 21, with a windchill that "felt like -9". Meaning COLD. Period.

Yet this brave dude is out and about on his bike, armed only with a jacket and a cup of coffee. We might not be quite that adventurous these days, but we still admire the spirit.

Biker Photo of the Day--Funky Trike

This is one of the most eye-catching bikes seen often around town. Don't know much about it, just that it is custom "home-made" special with a Volkswagen motor.

Now that is like an RV with a sun-roof.

Cool Facts About Motorized Trikes:

  • A trike with one wheel in front is called a Delta Trike
  • A trike with one wheel in back and two in front is a Tadpole or reverse trike.
  • The first ancestor of the motorized trike was the three-wheeled wheelchair, invented in 1655. It was operated via a hand crank!
  • The first pedal trike was invented in 1789
  • In 1877 a trike was invented that operated with hand levers and a chain drive.
  • The Servi-Car was Harley-Davidson's first trike

Biker Photo of The Day--Man's Greatest Invention?

Oh the great inventions of the world. But who doesn't agree that the wheel is one of the best ever? It wouldn't be the same if it was square. And for bike's it just wouldn't be the same if it was wooden. I guess along with the wheel we ought to thank the guys that perfected inflatable rubber tires, too.

Wheel

The bright idea of creating something round that could move heavy loads seemed to have dawned on several people at the same time. "First wheels" have been found that are the same age (dating back the fourth millenium BC...or Neolithic age) in various geographical locations across the world.

Tire

The idea of making a wheel out of something softer than wood, metal or stone didn't really take off until 1880's, after the many uses for vulcanized rubber were being discovered. The first guy to think about putting rubber on a tire to make the ride softer was actually looking for a better tire for a bicycle.

1985 Harley-Davidson FXRS with Evolution Motor

Introducing Ol' Blue, the shop mascot. It has been owned by both of the Two Wrenches, and they both agree that it is THE best motorcycle either of them has ever ridden. There will be more about Ol' Blue in the future, as this bike has many stories to tell.
